i will have a hell of a time remembering it when you need it (at first). Take copious notes during training, and organize them afterward by rereading them and, if necessary, copying them onto clean sheets of paper.

When you start a new job you can go anywhere you want, just look serious and carry a clipboard. When you don't know what to do, walk faster and look worried.

Second point is very true. Anywhere established that you join whether it be a team or a company will have that pack mentality. You won't walk in and instantly become part of the family no matter what they claim. You could have a guy who is incompetent but has been there for 20 years. Then there will be you who can come through the door and instantly do his job with your eyes closed... won't mean a thing so don't go opening your mouth!

If you are interested I wrote a guest post covering the same topic which might bring up a few additional points.

I would add: not defining and delivering your work to the team.

In a new position, there are unwritten "social" rules about how work is administered and delegated. I'd make sure that the work I needed to deliver was clearly understood so that the first impression of the team is "this is a person that gets things done." It will go a long way to helping fit into the group.
