File Hamster is a great idea.
Version control should be simple. But if you really want a user friendly alternative I suggest you look at History Explorer from www.exendo.org

Very nice pieces of advice. It works great, I was trying to install cvs just for keeping my local files safe but it is far too complicated for me.

Thanks for all the comments re other systems. Always good to have a choice!

@luke: I’m using a theme called “Zune”, which I downloaded from somewhere . As for that extra button, that’s from using UltraMon, to manage multiple monitors. Clicking that button lets me move a window from one monitor to another.

Mozy (https://mozy.com/ref/U4SRR0) backs up data and keeps several versions of each file.
Most of us just want to
prevent accidental overwriting of valuable data and would actually not need a special versioning system on top of a backup tool such as Mozy — unless you want to be able to trace back changes over a long period of time.
