As a Thank-You for ‘Following’ Me, I’ll Stop NoFollow’ing You

Gift

So, since I’m feeling particularly altruistic and sappy, I’m going to hook you guys up (and this is aimed specifically at all of the entrepreneurial bloggers out there)…

I’ve decided to remove the “nofollow” attribute from all links the comments. If you don’t know what this means, here’s a 2-sentence synopsis:

Basically, any link that contains the

rel="nofollow"

attribute (in the HTML) will not be followed when search engines are crawling a website, so the target site won’t get credit for being linked to by the source site. And there is no second sentence. Read more about this on Wikipedia.

Hopefully, this will stimulate even more discussion on this here blog (and I’ll definitely be more active in the comments and whatnot – one thing I’ve really dropped the ball on). So, comment early and often and drink in the goodness that is linkage from my humble blog!

And for everybody who thought I was going to be handing out free CW tote bags, I apologize. They’re on back-order.

On deck for tomorrow: Why Backpack is the single greatest GTD tool I’ve ever used. Stay tuned

    Come on, you couldn’t get the tote bags in time? Not even a cheap pen?

    Congrats on joining the No NoFollow crowd. I’ve seen a surge in comments on my blog, since publicizing my NoFollow removal. I hope it helps spark your conversations as well.

    While you’re tweaking things, how about a “subscribe to comments” plugin? I hate doing a comment-and-run. :)

    That is very commendable. I personally think that Big G is not really giving much weight to comment links anyway. I have a “nofollow” identifier turned on so I can see which places on the web give up some link love and which don’t. I personally think that Google or any other SE shouldn’t be trying to dictate how links are attributed. I was floored recently when I saw that a company selling link comparison/analysis software was “nofollow/noindexing” the links to the companies featured on their testimonials. That was a pretty crappy thanks for a testimonial. Found you through Life Hacker

    I have no idea what any of that means, but I’m definitely not feeling the love. No free tote bags? Come on, Brett, let’s step it up!

    I found this code snippet and a graphic a little while ago, because it’s important to share the love.

    Check it out!
