Off-Topic: Defining Irony

Never Eat Alone

So yesterday I got this book from Amazon called “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi (which I bought with an Amazon gift certificate I won from Blingo - yay!). It’s about building personal relationships and how it’s your network of friends and colleagues that will really make the difference between success and failure. So far, I’m really enjoying it!

The funny bit is this - today I sat at a local burger joint reading it while I ate. Alone.

That made me laugh :)

That reminds me of years ago, when my dad was reading a Reader’s Digest book in the living room and, as he was wont to do, fell asleep in his chair while reading. When my brother discovered him sleeping, he noticed the page the book was open to: it was the title page for the book “Fall Asleep And You Die”.

Not a bad book, but there was definately a few times I thought the author was telling me to use people to get ahead.

I read this a year or so ago. Mr. Farrazzi does not hesitate to “name drop.” Still, it is an interesting book.

Your story reminds me of a time about 4 years ago when we had a major ice storm where I live in North Carolina. We had no electricity for 6 days! One evening I was reading Kevin Mitnik’s The Art of Deception by candlelight and wondered how many other people have read technology type books by candlelight. It was a fun thought.

Great book! As someone in education, this book totally changed how I began to see interactions with parents, students and coworkers. As Keith says, “networth is the total of your network”.

    Thanks for the post,
    Mike
