Friday Fun: What’s Playing on My iPod

For this edition of Friday Fun, I thought I’d let you in on a little more personal information about yours truly. I’m something of a music nut (though I have virtually no musical talent whatsoever) and my job affords me the opportunity to listen to my iPod for the better part of most work days. I also have what some might call ‘eclectic’ tastes when it comes to my tunes (though my wife would describe much of it as ‘headache-inducing noise’).

Here’s a quick rundown of what albums have been getting serious play on the old ‘pod this week (and this isn’t based on any sort of statistics or hard data, it’s just what I can think of off the top of my head):

  • The Sufferer and The Witness by Rise Against - Picked this one up right when it came out. These guys have a melodic hardcore sound, but with no shortage of toe-tappers. This is the one I toss on at about 2:30pm when I’m starting to run out of gas. A stellar album, for certain.
  • Come Clarity by In Flames - When I think of metal, I think of these guys. Seriously epic tracks with a good balance of harmony and blood-curdling screams.
  • You Fail Me by Converge - This album will rip your throat out and show it to you. And that’s all I’m going to say.

  • The Bronx (II) by The Bronx - Imagine a modern punk rock band dipped in some good old fashioned rock and roll - that’s The Bronx. This one is great for first thing in the morning to get the blood pumping and the feet moving.
  • You Forgot it in People by Broken Social Scene - A masterpiece of indie rock. If you’ve never heard of the band, do yourself a favor and pick up this album - it’s truly awesome.
  • The Campfire Headphase by Boards of Canada - Electronic/ambient music that’ll slowly draw you into it’s clutches. I don’t partake in any sort of controlled substance, but if I did - this is what I would listen to while I did. Best enjoyed in a dark room where nobody is talking

So there it is. Anybody like any of this stuff? I know most of it is pretty aggressive by today’s standards, but it helps me work :)

    Other than Rise Against, I haven’t even heard of the other bands. Sounds like I have some new music to check out Sweet!
